This Biniboo Quiet book Pelican page is great for fine motor skills and also counting.

You can make this Quiet book Pelican page in the no-sew method, as long as you are willing to make hand-stitches to fasten the zipper on the page.

If you just started planning your quiet book, I suggest you read the Quiet book Guide, where you can find out how to choose the best activity pages for your child and what is the general procedure of making a quiet book.

If you want to use the no-sew method, I kindly suggest reading an article about gluing before you start, to find out if your glue is suitable for making no-sew quiet book activities. Also, do a test and make sure your hot glue doesn’t melt the felt. If you will make a sewn quiet book, make sure you know how to sew felt in quiet books correctly.

NO-SEW & SEWING INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

If you haven’t already, first, create a fabric page base (sewing method) or felt page base (no-sew method). Download and print the FREE PDF Pelican Quiet Book Pattern for this activity and cut out all the shapes. You can find the pattern at the bottom of the page.

Put the paper pieces on a stiff felt, transcribe them, and then cut them out from felt. If you don’t want to waste hours searching for all the materials you need and transcribing and cutting the felt, check my DIY store to buy a pre-cut DIY kit for this activity page.

STEP 2

Put the zipper slider on the zipper teeth. Watch the video how to do it.

STEP 3

Clip the zipper under the orange felt. The zipper key must be inside the felt opening.

No-sew method: Turn felt around and make marks wit an erasable pen where the zipper ends. Put the glue inside the marks and press zipper on. Wait till the glue is dry. Make an additional hand-stitches all around the zipper. Cut the extra zipper that looks out of the felt.

Sewing method: sew the zipper and felt together.

STEP 4

Put two fish pieces of the same color together. Glue or sew them together. You can draw their eyes with the permanent marker.

STEP 5

Sew or glue the beige sandy soil on the prepared page.

STEP 6

Put all the pieces on the prepared page to see how you should glue or sew them. Sew or glue the felt parts in the following order: pelican’s legs, pelican’s body, pelican’s eye, pelican’s dandruff, gray rocks, and white cloud.

STEP 7

No-sew method: Glue the felt with the zipper on the other orange felt. You do this by applying glue only to the edges of the felt with the zipper. Make additional hand-stitches where there is a zipper and two pieces of felt are not glued together. Then, glue the whole piece on the page.

Put the fish inside the pelican’s mouth.

Sewing method: Take another orange felt and align it with the felt with the zipper. Clip the felt pieces together. Put them on the page and sew around.

Put the fish inside the pelican’s mouth.

You finished the Biniboo Quiet Book Pelican page. Congrats!
